maracaibo - The second longest bridge in South America, with the same design as the bridge collapsed in Genoa, has not been inspected for decades.
The General Rafael Urdaneta bridge- designed by architect Riccardo Morandi- has spanned access to Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela since 1962 over a length of almost nine kilometers. The construction of concrete and steel has not been checked for decades, according to a former official in The Times.
It is also no longer possible to check what the weight of freight traffic is on the main road daily.
