washington - The US has warned the United Arab Emirates not to attack the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah. The army of Yemen, supported by the Emirates, has approached Hodeidah to less than 10 kilometers. Hodeidah is in the hands of Houthi rebels and the port is an important release point for relief supplies for the ailing population of Yemen.
The UN envoy for Yemen is currently negotiating with the government and the rebels to get the port under international control. According to the UN, an attack on the city of six hundred thousand inhabitants would cause a new humanitarian crisis.
