- The Afghan Taliban leader, Mullah Akhtar Mansour, according to US officials 'almost certainly' slain by an attack by a drone. The airstrike was carried out Saturday in the border region with Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Pentagon reported.

The attack was authorized by President Barack Obama. Besides Mansour was also another Taliban fighter were slain in the attack.

Mansour gold for years as the second man of the Taliban. He was elected in July last year as successor to Mullah Mohammed Omar, who died in 2013. Mansour has often declared dead.
