World June 19, 2018 18:09

washington - The US steps out of the UN Human Rights Council. That reports sources around the US government. Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo and the ambassador at UN Nikki Haley will announce the departure Tuesday (American time).

America has already threatened to step out of the council if it is not drastically reformed. According to Washington, the Geneva-based council is anti-Israel. Conversations about reform would have led to nothing last week.

The Human Rights Council decided last month to set up an independent committee to investigate the Israeli army's violence against Palestinian demonstrators at the border between Gaza and Israel. Of the members in the council, 29 agreed to initiate an investigation, fourteen abstained and two countries voted against.
