US insisted on reducing Yemen's blockade

washington - US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson urged Saudi Arabia a few days ago to not enforce Yemen's blockade so strictly.

The Saudi-led military coalition decided Wednesday to reopen the port of Hodeidah to bring relief supplies to the troubled country. In addition, UN flights may be operated on the capital city of Sanaa.

It is not known whether the pressure from Washington was decisive in the turnaround. Tillerson's request to crown prince Mohammed bin Salman was one of the many attempts the US made this month to alleviate the warlike foreign policy of Riyadh. Tillerson spoke to the Saudi throne at the beginning of this week by telephone for three quarters of an hour. This has been confirmed by one of his top advisers.
