UN peace mission to stop Haiti

new york - The UN stop the peacekeeping mission in Haiti and replaced by a smaller police mission. The fifteen members of the UN Security Council voted unanimously Thursday to a proposal to that effect.

The peacekeeping mission in Haiti, MINUSTAH called, has existed for thirteen years and is one of the longest peacekeeping missions of the UN. The mission consists of 2342 soldiers. Which will be retired in the next six months.

The mission was stationed in Haiti in 2004 after President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was ousted by a popular uprising. In 2010, cholera broke out in the country. The disease was brought by soldiers from Nepal that were stationed there. There were 50 000 people sick whom deceased 9300 The UN has apologized for their role in the disaster.
