Uber is a taxi, not an app

- Taxi app Uber is legally a transport company and not a digital mediation service.

Drivers who work with the American company can therefore be required to apply for a taxi license according to national rules

The European Court of Justice ruled that Tuesday. The judges follow the judgment of the Advocate General of the court in May.

The Uber platform organizes and manages an on-demand transport system, the court argues. As a result, and also because drivers without a platform have no work, it is much more than a digital service.

Uber sees itself as an information service, but in May it said that in most EU countries it is already treated as a transport company and not much changes. That also applies to the Netherlands.

The case was filed by taxi drivers from Barcelona.
