bangkok - A former Thai monk who was known for his luxury lifestyle was sentenced to a prison sentence of 114 years. A court in Bangkok ruled that Wirapol Sukphol was guilty of, among other things, fraud and money laundering.

Sukphol was already put out of the monks order in 2013. That happened after a video had surfaced on which he held a pile of banknotes in a private plane. The man was also accused of having sex with a minor girl. The United States delivered the so-called 'jet set monk' last year.

A government source says that the monk committed fraud by claiming to have supernatural powers. The accusation of whitewashing would be related to the purchase of luxury cars. Sukphol is expected to be serving only 20 years of his sentence. He is also being prosecuted for other offenses, such as child abuse.
