strasbourg - At least seven seated and former parliamentarians of the Council of Europe have admitted 'inadmissibly' with lobbying and other activities of the government of Azerbaijan. This is evident from an external investigation into corruption in the parliamentary assembly of the organization that oversees democracy and human rights.

For example, parliamentarians received bribes or gifts to report less critically about human rights in Azerbaijan or violated other ethical rules. The chairman of the assembly, Michele Nicoletti, calls on politicians mentioned in the report to cease their work until it can be determined internally which codes of conduct have been violated.

CDA MP and MP from the Council of Europe Pieter Omtzigt believes that 'serious consequences' should be given to the report. 'The Dutch government has to get involved,' he says.
