Tusk and Juncker congratulate Erdogan

brussels - Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker sent the Turkish president Recep Erdogan a congratulatory letter of three lines a day after his re-election.

The Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission hereby state 'to look forward to continuing to work closely with him in areas of common interest for relations between Turkey and the EU, such as security, migration and energy. Turkey is a candidate country and a key partner for the European Union. '

Erdogan, who already had an authoritarian course, gets considerably more power in his new term. Europe is dependent on him because of agreements made about the reception of (Syrian) refugees. Many members of the European Parliament and also the House of Representatives argue that the accession negotiations must be formally stopped.
