rome - The attendance at the parliamentary elections in Italy appears to be higher on Sunday than at the ballot box in 2013. Italian media reported that at 12 noon more than 19 percent of voters had voted. Five years ago that was almost 15 percent.
Italy chooses a new parliament of 630 seats and 315 members of the Senate. A new electoral system has ensured that very small parties will fall apart if they do not compete in a coalition.
Two major coalitions, a center-right and a center-left, a Eurosceptic protest party and a new radical left party are the most promising participants.
