Turkish officials to Lesbos

- Turkish officials on Monday on the Greek island of Lesbos arrived to assist in the implementation of agreements that Turkey and the EU have made on stemming the flow of refugees. The island is about 20 kilometers off the Turkish coast in the Aegean Sea. This is where many refugees within the European Union.

Turkish-European agreement started officially Sunday and should ensure that migrants Turkey can no longer be used as a springboard to the EU. Yet since Sunday morning, more than 1 660 migrants on Greek islands landed on the Turkish coast, of whom nearly seven hundred on Lesbos, according to authorities. The number is higher than on Saturday.

The authorities on Lesvos register the land migrants come and see quickly whether they can win political asylum. Those who have no chance, according to the estimation of the migration service, go back to Turkey. The return trip would be arranged from April 4th.

Turkish officials are not first on the island. Which belonged from 1462 to 1912 to the Ottoman Empire.
