istanbul - A Turkish judge has determined on Monday that four prominent journalists and staff members of opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet must remain in jail during the hearing of their case. As a result, they are still stuck until 9 March. Only then is the next session. A few of them were arrested and put in the cell fourteen months ago.

Editor-in-chief Murat Sabuncu, investigative journalist Ahmet Sik, lawyer Akin Atalay and administrator Emre Iper stand trial for support to the perpetrators of the coup a year and a half ago.

The public prosecutors claim that Cumhuriyet was in fact taken over by the supporters of Fethullah G├╝len, who is held responsible for the failed coup. The accused deny any involvement in the movement of the spirit living in the US.
