Turkish government wants more internet control

istanbul - The Turkish government wants to introduce a new law for more internet control. All websites that regularly publish video or audio recordings must be checked in the future by the broadcasting authority (RTÜK).

That is what the conservative government party AKP reports. Websites could receive a license in the future after being checked by the police and the secret service. In case of violations of the RTÜK rules, the court can block access to a website and withdraw the license.

The proposed law aims to block Turkish media that the government disagrees with and to monitor foreign platforms such as Netflix. The platform can thus be forced to remove kiss scenes.

Opponents call the proposal a form of censorship. The Minister of Communications defended the law and said that the proposal is only to apply the rules that already exist on the internet.
