Turkey wants an embassy in East Jerusalem

ankara - Turkey must have an embassy in East Jerusalem. Turkish president Erdogan said this Sunday at a meeting of his party for Justice and Development (AK) in the south of the country.

Last week, Erdogan hosted a summit of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul that declared East Jerusalem the capital of Palestine. This was a reaction to the controversial American decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The United Nations wants the fate of Israel's Arab East, which was occupied by Israel in 1967, to be laid down in peace talks. East Jerusalem would then become the Palestinian capital.

'We have proclaimed East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, but we can not yet open an embassy because it is occupied territory. But if God wants it, we will soon be able to open an embassy there, 'Erdogan said according to Turkish media.
