Turkey dismisses 167 scientists

- Turkey has 167 employees laid off from the Scientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK), the Turkish broadcaster NTV reported Friday. The resignation is part of a purge of state institutions after the failed coup last month.

More than 60 000 people from the army, the judiciary, the civil service and education have been arrested, dismissed or suspended. They are maintaining their suspected links with the US resident cleric Fethullah Gulen, which according to Ankara the mastermind behind the coup attempt on July 15.
