Trump wants to change the guard in Iran

World January 1, 2018 15:06

palm beach - US President Trump once again turned against the Iranian rulers on Monday. He called unambiguously to change the regime that, according to him, 'fails on all fronts'.

'They (the Iranians) crave food and freedom. Iran's wealth is plundered just like human rights, 'tweeted Trump in his Mar-a-Lago retreat in Florida.

Earlier, Rex Tillerson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, let it slip that he hopes for regime change in Iran. He would support the 'elements within Iran that are working towards a peaceful transition to another government'. Now Trump confirms, after a series of verbal attacks on Iran, that he hopes for a different regime.

Since Thursday there have been demonstrations in numerous Iranian places. At first they mainly had price increases as their theme, but are developing into a massive protest against the conservative Shia clergy that has ruled the country since 1979. In the meantime, at least ten people have already died.
