Trump unfolds new plan for illegal immigrants

washington - US President Donald Trump is willing to grant 1.8 million foreigners who came to America as a child in the long run to grant citizenship. That is more than double the number of people now receiving protection under the so-called DACA scheme.

In return, Trump wants Congress to release $ 25 billion for additional security measures at the borders, including the border wall with Mexico. The plan was announced to the party leaders on Thursday. The White House hopes that the Senate will make a decision on this in early February.

The Democrats and the Republicans are at odds over the immigration issue. Trump announced last fall that he wanted to abolish the DACA scheme. This protects some 800,000 foreigners who illegally came to the US as a child and were fully established.
