washington - US President Donald Trump leaves the international agreement on restraining the Iranian nuclear program intact for the time being. He will announce that decision on Friday. In this way, Trump wants to give himself and Congress more time to lay a legal basis for new sanctions against Iran.

The decision to extend the relief of sanctions for another 120 days was taken in consultation with his security advisor Herbert McMaster, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rex Tillerson, and his Defense Minister, Jim Mattis. According to well-informed sources, Tillerson will inform his French and German colleagues of the decision.

The Iran agreement, in which Tehran claims to phase out the nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, was closed in 2015 after years of negotiations. Trump has previously called it the 'worst deal ever'. The EU left Thursday immediately behind the nuclear agreement with Iran.
