Trump continues to draw reins on immigration

washington - The United States has tightened up the entry requirements for refugees from eleven so-called risk countries. Refugees from certain countries are subject to additional screening measures, said the US Department of Homeland Security Monday.

With regard to the reception of refugees, the debate about their number and their country of origin, the issue of the own security of the host country must in principle come first. Currently there is an upper limit of 50,000 refugees per year. The list of countries involved must also be constantly updated, according to the ministry.

The measure is a consequence of the entry ban imposed by US President Donald Trump a year ago. After several legal proceedings, the US Supreme Court decided to uphold the decree.

Trump decided in October last year to continue the American refugee program in principle. But for refugees from eleven countries, who were not mentioned by name, he ordered further testing within ninety days. This deadline, in which people from the affected countries could only be admitted to the US on a case-by-case basis, has now expired.
