Trump admits controversial sheriff grace

washington - US President Donald Trump gave a pardon on Friday to a controversial former Arizona sheriff convicted one month earlier.

The 85-year-old Joe Arpaio was known as the 'hardest sheriff of the US'. The Korean War veteran is a convinced patron and lover of Trump.

He was controversial because of his hard attitude towards illegal immigrants. In July, he was convicted of the willful negligence of a court order.

The court had previously ruled that Arpaio and its agents should stop the arbitrary arrest and detention of immigrants on suspicion of illegality. The sheriff placed that order next to him.

It is the first time President Trump uses his right to grant grace. 'He kept Arizona safe!', The president said on Twitter.
