Trucker gets lifelong for dead migrants in cargo hold

- A driver of a truck that smuggled dozens of migrants into his vehicle in the US state of Texas last year was sentenced to life imprisonment. Ten occupants of the 61-year-old driver's truck did not survive the ride in the hot vehicle.

In the truck, which stood on a parking lot of a supermarket, employees discovered in July last year about 30 people in the cargo area. The air conditioning of the car did not work and many passengers had dehydration symptoms. The temperatures outside the vehicle at that time were 38 degrees Celsius.

Eight people were already deceased in the truck. Two other people died later in the hospital. The passengers had been transported from Mexico to the United States by human smugglers.
