Tripadvisor under fire to delete reviews about sexual assault

milwaukee - The American consumer agency FTC has started an investigation into the practices of TripAdvisor TripAdvisor. Dozens of travelers had complained that TripAdvisor removed their reviews of sexual violence, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

A previous survey of the news site revealed that TripAdvisor had removed reports of rape and other violence. 'If customers can not post honest reviews, it could hinder other customers to make an informed choice,' the FTC writes.

At the beginning of November, TripAdvisor launched a new feature on the website, which warns travelers if there are reports of sexual or other violence at a hotel or destination. Even afterwards, the Journal Sentinel received dozens of complaints from people whose negative reviews had been removed.
