amsterdam - In Amsterdam transmitters hanged in public places in lampposts to motivate as novice runners. The 'beacons' giving runners feedback on their performance and measure how much they move through an app. Monday is the project started.
The experiment is an initiative of the University of Amsterdam, Inholland and the municipality. They want to find out whether sensors and apps townspeople can move more. The novice athletes get into the park or on the street feedback through an app that responds to the beacons. These are small transmitters that communicate with mobile devices via a Bluetooth connection.
The beacons communicate only with phones in this project, which the app is installed. The app records including the distance, duration and speed of moving someone.
