Trade Minister US confirms agreement on ZTE

World June 7, 2018 15:51

- The Chinese smartphone maker ZTE still has to pay a fine of 1.4 billion dollars and agree to some changes in management. But the American sanctions against the manufacturer are off the track. That is in general the deal that ZTE and the US government have concluded, trade minister Wilbur Ross confirmed this Thursday in an interview with news channel CNBC.

The company had been in serious trouble due to the recently imposed penalties. ZTE uses, among other things, chips from the American chipmaker Qualcomm and the operating system Android from Google. Because of the sanctions American companies were not allowed to deliver to the second largest smartphone maker in China. ZTE therefore discontinued its activities since the restriction was imposed in April.

President Donald Trump previously said via Twitter that a solution for ZTE would be looked at. China and the United States are involved in a much broader trade dispute. This issue could not be separated from it, which is why the case was discussed at a high level. There were also many Chinese jobs involved.
