- A two-year-old boy drowned off the coast of the Greek island Agathonisi. The toddler is the first refugee victims of the new year.

The boy was sitting with 39 people on an overcrowded boat, which then feed on the rocks and hit several passengers overboard.

The dinghy was Saturday morning left from Turkey, The Guardian reported Sunday. The survivors, including the mother of the child were taken to Pythagorio on Samos.

Despite the bad weather are still trying to reach large numbers of migrants from the Aegean Europe. Last year, almost a million people fled from Turkey or North Africa, mostly from war zones in Syria, Afghanistan or Iraq. More than 3,600 people were drowned while living.
