bonn - The new US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, Thursday in Bonn has said his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. Afterwards Tillerson said he can work where it makes sense, but that Moscow itself or must adhere to the agreements made in Ukraine with Russia.
Lavrov called the meeting productive and said that there will be more targeted contact between the two countries, once the new US administration is fully installed.
The visit to the G20 Ministerial Conference in Bonn is the first foreign trip of the 64-year-old Tillerson as minister. To the chagrin of accompanying journalists, he slept on the plane from Washington to Germany.
Lavrov's been almost thirteen years foreign minister, Tillerson was previously the boss at Exxon Mobil. He has since raised more than forty years. The company has many interests in Russia as Exxon joint ventures with Russian oil giant Rosneft. Tillerson has long had a friendly relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The G20 is an international economic forum of nineteen major advanced countries and the EU. They represent two thirds of the world's population and about 80 percent of world trade.
