Thousands of migrants rescued at sea

rome - Some 6,500 migrants rescued in a 24 hour period of boats on the Mediterranean. The Italian coastguard forty rescue operations were carried out, reported the Italian ANSA news agency Monday.

Aid workers in the past four days, took all of about 10 000 people from boats between the Libyan coast and Italy. Because of the instability in Libya, the country has become an important point of departure for refugee boats.
