new york - A swarm of thousands of bees has chosen a special location on Tuesday around lunchtime to settle: on top of a hot dog stand at Times Square in New York.

The police had to drop part of the busy place so that the bees could be removed. According to NY Times, the owner of the booth at the intersection of 43rd Street and Broadway was not happy with the visit of the insects. Others could laugh at it.

According to a beekeeper there were between 15,000 and 20,000 bees on the roof of the hot dog stall. 'You just have to count the legs and then divide by six,' he joked.

Swarms usually occur in the spring, but due to the extremely hot weather, the queen- and thousands of others- would have looked for another location. According to the expert, New Yorkers keep bees on roofs, often for honey.

'I think they wanted a hot dog,' said the beekeeper. The bees were sucked away in an hour by an agent who is a beekeeper himself. They were released in a 'safe place' outside the city.
