The UN Council and the Netherlands speak out against Israel

new york - Two-thirds of the United Nations Security Council has expressed its 'deep concern' on Monday that there has been no end to the Israeli settlements on land that the Palestinians want to have for an independent state. As early as 2016, the Security Council demanded this in a resolution.

The Netherlands and ten other members of the fifteen-person council wrote this in a letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The letter coincided with the bloodiest day for the Palestinians since 2014. Over fifty people died in protests on the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

'The Security Council must stand behind its resolutions and ensure that they have meaning. Otherwise, we run the risk of undermining the credibility of the international system, 'wrote the signatories.
