Tens of thousands of Venezuelans stabbing border

bogota - Approximately 28,000 people on Saturday morning (local time) crossed the newly opened border between Venezuela and Colombia.

The Colombian authorities told the newspaper El Tiempo that the border have gone mostly Venezuelans.

Most Venezuelans indicated that they wanted to do some shopping in Colombia. Even Colombians and Venezuelans went to the other side of the border to visit relatives.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro pitched the border closed about a year ago to prevent the smuggling of goods and the intrusion of Colombian paramilitaries. The border went last month twice already open to buy Venezuelans able food and medicine to set the neighboring country.

The countries have now agreed to work towards a full reopening of the 2,200-kilometer border. From Saturday to pedestrians already in five places make the crossing. In Venezuela by an economic crisis deficiency include food and medicine.
