Tear gas against Greek farmers in Athens (2)

athens - Greek police teargas on Friday deployed against peasants who tried to occupy the Ministry of Agriculture in Athens. Farmers perform many weeks action against increases in taxes and pension contributions and wish Friday and Saturday put the capital on stilts.

Approximately eight hundred farmers came Friday morning with the ferry from Crete to. At the Ministry of Agriculture they threw stones and tomatoes and they clashed with police that began tear gas to dislodge them.

Farmers from all over Greece to demonstrate around noon with tractors to the parliament building in Athens. To avoid traffic chaos, the police have eleven major roads closed to the center. Only farmers are passed in buses or cars, farmers blocked by tractors.

The farmers are protesting against government plans to make them more self-employed pension contributions and other payments and to abolish certain tax advantages. The measures are part of reforms demanded by the lenders of Greece.
