beirut - The Syrian army has regained control of the main pumping station and sewage treatment plant in al-Khafsa on the Euphrates, which features the great city of Aleppo water. The fighters of the Islamic State have been expelled. This was announced by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Tuesday.

The supply of clean water to Aleppo from al-Khafsa was completed two months. The population was all this time to rely on local sources or private vendors.

The troops of President Assad received air support from ally Russia. They are also quite some time due to heavy bombing on the rise in the area east of Aleppo. An army spokesman had said earlier in the day already very close to his success in al-Khafsa. IS is losing ground in northern Syria, where the jihadists are also under fire from Syrian rebels and militias receiving American or Turkish help.
