- With the presumed suicide of the South Korean pop star Kim Jong-hyun, the merciless performance culture of the Asian country is once again under a magnifying glass. Kim was one of Shinee's five band members, famous in the K-pop genre. With an annual turnover of around 4 billion euros, K-pop and the largest music industries in the world. The pressure under which these artists have to perform is inhumane, say critics.
