State of emergency after storming Baghdad Green Zone

baghdad - Iraq on Friday declared a state of emergency for Baghdad, after protesters had stormed the government building had invaded the so-called Green Zone in the city. The police used tear gas and firearms against protesters. Dozens of people were injured.

Over time, the army said that it had recovered control of the green zone. The protesters were supporters of the Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Al-Sadr called on his followers to turn several times Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi under pressure. The Prime Minister has promised months ago to his cabinet, which is now made up along sectarian lines, to be replaced by independent technocrats. The feel different camps in Iraqi politics are sacrificing nothing for their influence in this way.
