SPD wants to upset Groko-saboteurs foot

berlin - The German Social Democrats try to prevent people joining the party alone to prevent government participation. The SPD summit therefore wants a deadline: people who become members after a certain date can no longer vote on a possible coalition agreement with the Christian Democrats of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The possible participation in a new so-called large coalition ('GroKo') is very sensitive within the SPD. The party of Martin Schulz ruled with CDU / CSU in recent years and then suffered a heavy election defeat. However, SPD delegates gave the green light on Sunday for formal negotiations on a new GroKo.

The approximately 440,000 members of the party then have the last word. They may then decide on government participation. GroKo opponents would therefore try to recruit supporters. SPD official Lars Klingbeil confirmed on the radio that the party top wants to record the date from which new members can no longer vote on the issue. The specific date is not yet known.
