SPD presents ministers' team

berlin - Deputy SPD leader Olaf Scholz and Andrea Nahles, the intended new chairman of the German Social Democrats, presented their ministerial team for the big coalition cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday.

Hubertus Heil becomes Minister for Employment and Social Affairs, Katarina Barley comes to Justice and Svenja Schulze takes over the Department of Environment, the German media report.

On Thursday it had already become clear that Heiko Maas would become the new man at Foreign Affairs and that Scholz would become Minister of Finance. He is also the vice chancellor in the new government. Franziska Giffey will be responsible for Family Affairs.

Scholz thanked, among others, Sigmar Gabriel (Foreign Affairs), Barbara Hendricks (Environment) and Brigitte Zypries (Economics), who did not return to the cabinet for their earnings in recent years.
