Spanish rosé sold as French

World July 9, 2018 14:30

barcelona/paris - A colossal amount of Spanish rosé is sold as French rosé. This has been discovered by a French anti-fraud institution in a survey conducted in the years 2016 and 2017 by producers, importers, traders and sellers, reported French and Spanish media.

A liter of Spanish rosé in 2016 cost on average 34 cents per liter, a liter of French somewhere between 70 and 90 cents per liter. Now the Spanish rosé is slightly more expensive, but the prices of French are said to increase faster.

The institution has started criminal proceedings against those involved. The discovery of the mess with wine occurs in a 'very good year' for the shoemakers. The prices of French rosé are rising sharply due to demand that has been growing for years and bad harvests in the most important rosé regions such as Provence. The yield in France fell by about 10 percent in the 2017 harvest.
