Soldiers shoot Palestinians dead

jerusalem - Israeli troops Saturday shot dead two Palestinian men who tried soldiers at a checkpoint in the West Bank stabbing them, according to the Israeli army.

         The soldiers were not injured in the confrontation at the Bekaot checkpoint in the northern West Bank. Israeli forces managed to thwart the attack and shot down the attackers, said a military spokesman.
Palestinian attacks have since early in October 21 Israelis and an American citizen killed. Israeli troops and armed civilians killed during that time certainly 139 Palestinians. Of these, according to the authorities 89 Palestinians who had attacked Israelis. Most of the others have been slain during the battles with security forces.
Observers say that the increasing Palestinian attacks have been fueled by the collapse of peace talks in 2014, the growth in the number of Jewish settlements on land where Palestinians want a future state and Islamist calls for destruction of Israel.
The violence is also fueled by the Islamic resistance against increasing Israeli visits to the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, a holy site for Islam, but also revered by Judaism as the location of two biblical temples.
