Smugglers 25 years in prison for death 71 migrants

budapest - A Hungarian court imposed 25 years in prison on four members of a gang of people smugglers who had 71 migrants suffocated in a truck. They left the truck with the bodies next to a motorway in Austria.

The authorities found the bodies of 59 men, 8 women in 4 children in 2015 in the abandoned truck. The Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi refugees had tried to attract the attention of the smugglers before their death, the authorities said. They called for help and struck vainly against the walls of the trailer.

The sinister find led to shocked reactions at the time. The Public Prosecution Service counseled the suspects that they ignored pleas of the suffocating migrants. The driver of the truck would have repeatedly pointed out to his boss by telephone the situation, but was told that he was not allowed to open the doors. He obeyed.
