- The air pollution in the Chinese capital Beijing Saturday has risen to an alarming level. The content of fine particles in the air is 391 micrograms per cubic meter, nearly twenty times more than the 25 micrograms by the World Health Organization (WHO) still designates as safe.

The heavy smog can cause breathing difficulties, aggravation of heart and lung diseases and premature death from cardiac patients and the elderly. Beijing residents are advised outside minimal effort. The sick, the elderly and children to remain inside the best.

Heavy smog in Beijing and other Chinese cities mainly a winter problem, as there are many coal-fired stoves. Nor is the weather at this moment there is no wind for days.
