london - Sergej Skripal, the ex-doublespion from Russia, who had been poisoned in southern England, would have asked Russian President Putin forgiveness for his betrayal in a letter. This is what a former school friend of Skripal, Vladimir Tomoshkov, told the BBC.

Timoshkov said that Skripal wanted to visit Russia and asked for forgiveness. The Kremlin immediately rebutted the message and states that no letter from Skripal has ever arrived.

Skripal was convicted in Russia in 2006 by a military tribunal for thirteen years in prison for espionage for the United Kingdom. He was exchanged four years later with three others in a spy exchange for ten Russian agents who were detained in the US.

Skripal lived in Salisbury, England. He was found unconscious there together with his daughter Joelia on 4 March. They had come into contact with an exceptional kind of nerve gas that had been developed in the Soviet Union. They are still in a coma.
