Sister Kim Jong-Un to Olympic Games

pyongyang - The younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is present at the opening of the Olympic Games in South Korea. Kim Yo-jong is thus the first from the ruling dynasty that sets foot on South Korean soil. That is what the South Korean Reunification Ministry has announced.

The visit can be seen as a symbolic gesture by Kim Jong-un to show that he is taking the current cautious rapprochement between the two Koreas seriously. Kim Yo-jong and her followers arrive on Friday and stay for three days.

Kim was promoted to the political wing of the party by her brother last year. Her age is not known, but the woman probably runs somewhere around thirty. She has the same mother as Kim Jong-un. The two grew up in the capital Pyongyang and went together to the same boarding school in Switzerland. Together they had a half-brother, Kim Jong-nam. It was poisoned in February at an airport in Malaysia and died.

Kim Yo-jong is after her promotion even closer to the center of power in North Korea. She is considered the most influential woman together with Kim's wife, Ri Sol-ju. In the country, family ties are highly regarded, even higher than title or rank.
