madrid - Seven ministers of the Catalan regional government are released on bail.
That is what the Spanish Supreme Court decided on Monday.
The pre-trial detention of the former Deputy Prime Minister of Catalonia, Oriol Junqueras, is being extended. Former Minister Joaquim Forn and two leaders of the ANC and Omnium Cultural action groups will also remain stuck.
The central Spanish government suspended the self-government of Catalonia more than a month ago after the region declared itself independent. The entire cabinet was put aside and the members were charged with, among other things, rebellion and sedition. Those who are now released on deposit have openly declared that they no longer seek unilateral independence.
Other ex-ministers and former prime minister Carles Puigdemont have moved to Belgium.
The Spanish government has issued new elections on 21 December in Catalonia.
