- A lost USB drive with personal data, a stolen laptop or an intrusion in a database. From next year, all companies and public authorities are obliged to report this to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (CBP) when they have a serious data breach.

The privacy watchdog Wednesday published its final policy on the new reporting requirement.,null, It is expected that protection of personal data given a much higher priority in the development of products and services, '' said Jacob Kohnstamm, chairman of the CBP.Recently, serious data breaches in the news about a toy manufacturer which data of more than 100 000 Dutch children were stolen, an American dating site whose customer data layers in the street and a hospital where medical records were leaked.
