Serbian politician in Kosovo killed

mitrovica - The Kosovar Serbian politician Oliver Ivanovic was killed by an attack on Tuesday. He was shot at the office of his party in the town of Mitrovica.

Ivanovic was awaiting a new trial for accusations of murdering ethnic Albanians during the Balkan War in 1998-1999. He was sentenced to nine years in 2016 for the murder of four Albanians, but the judiciary determined that the trial had to be repeated. Ivanovic was then released.

Serbia said on Tuesday that in protest against the murder it is suspending talks with the EU about normalization of the relationship with Kosovo.
