Senate US agrees with new budget

World February 9, 2018 07:03

washington - The US Senate has yet approved a new budget for the federal government. This means that the House of Representatives can now express its opinion on the proposal.

The Congress did not manage to vote on the budget before Thursday's deadline. The Republican Senator Rand Paul stopped the vote for hours. He complained that the planned increase in government spending amounts to 'pillaging the treasury'.

Due to the delay, a partial closure of government agencies, a so-called shutdown, has formally been resumed since midnight (American time). That also happened in January for three days. Thereafter, Congress agreed with a temporary solution.
