Senate approves appointment of high court well

World April 7, 2017 17:39

washington - The US Senate on Friday approved the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch member of the Supreme Court. This restored the conservative majority in the highest court of the United States. It is also the first major political victory for the new president Donald Trump.

Gorsuch (49) takes the place of Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016. Then President Barack Obama wore a successor, but the Republicans refused to lecture even consider.

Now move the Democratic senators against the nomination of Gorsuch by Trump. So far, a large majority of the Senate had to approve new judges in the Supreme Court, but Republicans have raised that line to break the resistance of Democrats. This requires simple majority.

Members of the Supreme Court are appointed for life.
