Selling Cuban cigars continue on the rise

World March 1, 2017 16:24

havana - Handmade Cuban cigars have last year gained popularity. The exclusive importer of the renowned tobacco products in the Benelux, Cuba Cigar, saw its sales increase by 5 percent to more than 20.3 million euros.

Thus a follow-up to the strong growth that was previously put into motion a year. In 2015, goods saw sales more than 13 percent, after a slight decrease in turnover in 2014. The expectations for 2017 are still positive.

In the Netherlands, the cigar went on sale last year by almost a quarter ahead. In Belgium, by contrast, there was a slight decline in sales. This had more to do with the terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium which received less foreign shoppers.

Cubacigar is the distributor of Habanos, known for brands such as Cohiba, Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta. Cubacigar has been around since the fifties. The company, based in the Flemish Overijse, yields Cuban 'longfillers' tobacco stores in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
