new york - The United Nations Security Council is likely to meet Friday to discuss the US President's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. According to diplomats, eight of the fifteen members asked for a meeting.
The American president made his decision Wednesday in a speech after which in the Arab world a storm of criticism erupted. He also announced that he would move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Israel considers all of Jerusalem as the capital after the country began building settlements in the east since the Six Day War. The Palestinians also see that part of the city as their capital.
